G'day. My name is Max, I’m 22 and I am a second year Landscape Architecture student studying at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) where I commenced studies in February of 2024. I am currently living in Sydney’s northern beaches (Gadigal land) where I spend almost all of my spare time in the ocean or surrounded by bush. I am extremely fortunate enough to grow up in spaces of greenery, where ocean meets land and where the palette of Australia’s east coast is seen.
MULCH is a collection of my past and continuing projects in the Landscape Architecture realm. It allows me to showcase my work and also the work of my friends, who I have worked on these projects with. For now, these projects are all university based and intertwine both theory and practice, designed to ask further questions about landscape, to better understand the intricacies of designing on land that holds immense cultural, spiritual, & social richness and to emphasise importance in conscious plantings; finding beauty in environment.
There is something about place that fascinates me. Something about how we live amongst a huge working of nature; vegetation deeply connected across lands, seemingly working together and for each other. Landscape Architecture fascinates me. Landscape tells story…connects us…allows us to ask big questions and reflect. I think spending so much time growing up in nature has definitely shaped me to better respect place. Do well by it and it shall do well by you.
I want to know more about how Landscape Architecture can help place, how it can slow us down, how it can make us think and also how it can make us feel good!
When people ask me why...I usually just say “less grey, more green.”
