Studio 3 - Designing for Socio-Ecological Solidarity, Newcastle/Worimi Land
studio project by Miles Angus and Max Milner
This studio encouraged students to explore speculative design, branching out to community and placing emphasis on the idea that landscape architecture does not necessarily require traditional outcomes. Here, Miles and I wanted to explore how we can design for a small, niche community situated amongst an extremely rich socio-ecological salt-marsh environment. By acknowledging that we ourselves are outsiders, the design directive shifted from outcome focused to process focused. Understanding stakeholders and materiality was critical to this project, allowing us to design, alternatively, community workshops that allowed for participants to design their own outcomes.
